Event Description

Award-winning playwright and performer Tamara Micner will lead participants in an interactive workshop where they will learn how to translate popular songs into Yiddish!


As a Yiddish educator, Tamara knows tips and tricks to approaching the language, and is excited to share that with you! Bring a notebook and pen, and get ready to kvell with all the Yiddish you’ll learn.

Parking is available on the street or in the underground parkade (elevator accessible).

Please note: Doors will lock automatically at 2:15pm. If you arrive late, please ring the doorbell for "Peretz Centre" at the front entrance.


This event is organized by the Chutzpah! Festival and co-hosted with the Peretz Centre for Secular Jewish Culture. Our doors are open to people of diverse cultures, beliefs, genders, sexual orientation, and ability.


Registration is required in advance (no cost); everyone is welcome to participate (no Yiddish knowledge needed).

Tamara Micner is an award-winning Yiddish educator, playwright, and performer who hails from Coast Salish land/Vancouver and now lives in London, England. In addition to teaching Yiddish/Yiddish theatre at the University of Cambridge, Workers' Circle, Paris Yiddish Centre Summer University, Yiddish Summer Weimar, and elsewhere, she co-founded and co-leads London's first Yiddish theatre company in decades (Di londoner shpilers/The London Yiddish Players). Her current theatre projects include the saucy, queer Yiddish panto Yankl and the Beanstalk (set in the radical Jewish East End of yore and featuring Yiddishised pop songs, a workers’ strike and Pickle Fairy) and Moyre's geburtstog, and past plays include Old Friends, Holocaust Brunch, and What You're Missing.
