Get Involved
Call for Board Members: The board of directors must include between 7 and 11 members, who each serve for staggered, 2-year terms (meaning that about half of the board is elected each year). We are seeking up to 7 new board members to participate in the governance of this wonderful institution. Come be a part of shaping the Peretz as a place to work towards a shenere un besere velt far ale -- a better and more beautiful world for all! Learn more about what's involved and submit your bio
Peretz Community Projects: Members are organizing together on four priority projects in early 2026 (click to expand each item for more information). After the AGM is adjourned, members can join these projects and propose/join other member-led initiatives.
Peretz Passover Committee
Each year, the Peretz community hosts a secular humanist Passover seyder. This group will:
Work with staff to organize this year's seyder on Sunday, March 29th (order of events, activities, food, etc.)
Initiate community-led projects around Passover as a festival of freedom/liberation
Peretz 80th Anniversary Committee
Peretz has historically organized around milestone anniversaries in order to document and share our history and grow/bring the community together. This group will:
Organize our 80th anniversary gala/shtetl wedding (Saturday, May 23rd), an evening of music, dance, culture that will showcase the talents and spirit of the community
Work with other committee members and staff to coordinate other 80th anniversary activities, such as creating a commemorative booklet and planning a public screening of the Four Pillars of Peretz documentary
Kinder/Yugnt Committee
Children and their caregivers are always welcome at Peretz, but not all programming is engaging to/appropriate for kids. In order to support working parents/caregivers and our youngest members, we need to share the labour/enjoyment of kid care. This group will:
Organize activities for children at events (with budget)
Participate in the development of programs for children and youth
Accessibility Working Group
Many community members look out for and support one another through things like ride-sharing, bringing food to potlucks that those with dietary restrictions can eat, helping out with childcare, even covering the cost of participation/buying tickets. But how can we do more with the resources that we have to create a more supportive community environment for all? This group will:
Discuss and investigate ways to reduce access barriers to Peretz programming and community participation
Make recommendations to the board and staff on how to implement programs and policies to improve accessibility
