Event Description
Join us for the first ever installment of the Zhargon Speaker Series, one of four lectures available to students enrolled in Zhargon: A Journey through the Histories of Yiddishkayt.
Rob Adler Peckerar is the executive director of Yiddishkayt LAÂ and an amazing scholar and teacher of Yiddish culture. He will speak about the linguistic and cultural aspects of Yiddish, its structure, and its relation to other languages that Jews of Eastern Europe spoke and interacted with.
As preparation for the talk, Robby has sent us the introduction to Benjamin Harshav's classic book The Meaning of Yiddish (1999), which surveys the structure, history, and cultural significance of the language. Take a look at the text and please feel free to bring any questions you have (from the reading or in general) so we can have more of a conversation.
