Friends, comrades, get ready: the Peretz Centre is thrilled to welcome back Brivele to Vancouver for a special performance celebrating the release of their new album, Khaveyrim Zayt Grayt!

Brivele is a Seattle-based ensemble braiding together Yiddish song, anti-fascist and labour balladry, folk-punk, and contemporary rabble-rousing in stirring vocal harmony. Through song, Maia Brown and Stefanie Brendler journey into the archives of Yiddish anti-fascist musical traditions to bring us anti-authoritarian satire, mournful remembrances, and the disguised political commentary of folk ditties and theatre classics. Their music is a correspondence: ancestors' voices speaking clearly and uncompromisingly, sometimes sweetly, to the present moment.

Brivele (בריוועלע) means "little letter" in Yiddish. Like letters, songs travel — through time and over borders. They pick up dirt, aromas, fingerprints. They are sent to lovers, they foment revolution, they get stolen and censored, burned and salvaged, sewn into our clothes.

In their third album, Maia and Stefanie share the voices of the unemployed and imprisoned, people facing and fighting evictions, McCarthy-era blacklisted poets, writers murdered by the state, workers, immigrants -- as well as the voices of disillusionment, steadfastness, love, and resistance.

Khaveyrim Zayt Grayt comes out on May Day (May 1st) 2025 though Borscht Beat records (pre-order here)!
