Event Description
The Peretz Centre's Fraytik tsu Nakht Cultural Shabbes & Potluck is open to all, beginning with our community's Secular Humanist Shabbes observance (songs and readings) followed by a potluck dinner and, for October, an after-dinner screening and community-led discussion of the new documentary Scenes from the Divide: The Jewish Fight over Zohran Mamdani.

Free street parking and underground parking available (elevator access).
Our community shabbes event is open to members and friends of all ages. During the film screening, there will be an alternative hang-out space for kids organized by the Peretz Kinder/Yugnt Committee.
Admission: a contribution to the potluck OR pay $18.00 per person (children are free) OR select the "Just coming for the movie" ticket to join during dessert/after dinner ($10.00).
Please register by Tuesday, October 13th so we can make sure there's enough food for everyone.

Scenes from the Divide Film Screening & Discussion

In the lead-up to Zohran Mamdani’s election as mayor of New York City, many of the city’s Jewish leadership, as well as pundits and politicians, worked overtime arguing that the candidate’s history of support for Palestine represented a threat to Jews. By inviting viewers into the homes of New Yorkers on both sides of the campaign, Scenes from the Divide unsettles this familiar story. Rather than a controversy over a particular election or candidate, the film reveals a fierce battle among American Jews over identity, history, and responsibility. Scenes from the Divide explores the story behind the story, uncovering a fraught struggle within a rapidly transforming community.
Directed and produced by Alison Klayman, and presented by Jewish Currents in association with Institute Pictures.
