Service Description

If you’re looking for a place to let off some steam, get out of your head, and have some fun — try theatre! Our course will focus on joy, confidence, movement, improvisation, team building, and creation. For the first three weeks we will focus on embracing spontaneity through embodied physicality, improvisation and other theatre games. Over the course of the last five weeks, we will use our new tools and favorite reoccurring improvisational themes to create a short performance as a group. Throughout the process we will weave in some study of Jewish artists. Join us and have some fun! E-meet your instructor: Samantha Levy (she/her) is a Jewish theatre artist who works as a performer, director, writer and teacher. Born and raised in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal), she is now based in so-called Vancouver. Samantha is a recent graduate from the Acting program at Studio 58 and, among other learning opportunities, previously trained at the Stratford Festival’s theatre arts programs. She was nominated for a 2022 Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Performance in a Theatre for Young Audiences piece for her work on Le merveilleux voyage d’Inès de l’Ouest (Emilie Leclerc, Théâtre La Seizième). You may have also seen her in the East Van Panto: Alice in Wonderland (Roe / Elliott / Testini, Theatre Replacement), Metamorphoses (Daniela Atiencia, Studio 58), or Risky Nights: I, Myself, Am Strange and Unusual (co-creator, Chris Lam, Studio 58). Samantha’s solo show, Wrecked, was created during her final semester at Studio 58 and will be featured in the 2023 Vancouver Fringe Festival
