This month's topic: When We Educate: Jewish Radicals and the Modern School Movement

Anarchists, socialists, and political radicals do many things to further their goals. Historically, they have engaged in protests, direct action, and publishing, among other things. But did you know that they also founded schools? In this lecture, we will visit one of the most well-known experiments in anarchist education—the Modern School Movement. We will meet its founders, its students, and its teachers, and see how Eastern European Jewish immigrants tried to use education to create a better, more just, and more free world.

Our speaker: Yotam Ronen is a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia researching the history of anarchist education.

Activities for children will be available during the speaker and discussion!
